beautiful streets of Monte Carlo — not a day pass, not a shared party boat, but a proper private cabin on a crewed vessel with a trackside berth — you are looking at somewhere between €28,000 and €55,000 per person, before you leave the airport.

Thanks for reading! Per person. For four days.

We are going to tell you exactly where that money goes. And then we are going to tell you whether any of it is worth it.

What You’re Actually Buying

First, a clarification, because the Monaco yacht experience is not one thing. It is a spectrum, and most people confusing themselves about cost are comparing different points on it.

There are three distinct products being sold under the banner of “watching Monaco by yacht”:

The yacht day pass — you buy a ticket to spend one day on a third-party vessel already berthed in the harbour. Prices for 2026 range from €550 to €4,500 depending on the day and the boat, with race day Sunday commanding the highest premium. Food and drink typically included. This is not a charter. You do not own the boat. You are one of dozens of guests.

The shared cabin charter — you book a cabin on a superyacht for the full weekend, sharing the vessel with other guests you may not know. Prices for 2026 run from around €24,000 for a double cabin to €42,000 for a master suite, for two people sharing. Private chef, full maid service, panoramic views of the circuit included.

The full private charter — you take the entire vessel. A mid-size superyacht (35–40 metres, 8–10 guests) runs €100,000 to €130,000 for the week as a base rate, before expenses. A larger vessel — 50 metres and above — starts at €200,000 and runs to €900,000 and beyond.

For this breakdown, we are focusing on the shared cabin charter — the entry point to the genuine superyacht experience, and the option most people actually book when they say they “watched Monaco from a yacht.”

The Full Cost They vary too much by origin to be meaningful. Add your own.

The Things Nobody Tells You

The APA is not optional. The advance provisioning allowance — Typically 25 to 30 percent of your base charter rate — is a pre-funded expense account that covers food, fuel, drinks, and crew costs during the charter. You pay it upfront. Whatever is left unspent is returned at the end of the trip. In practice, most charters spend close to all of it. This is not a hidden fee. It is standard practice. But it routinely surprises first-time charterers who only budgeted for the headline rate.

The VAT is significant. At 22 percent in EU waters, VAT adds a substantial sum to the total. A €24,000 cabin becomes €29,280 before you’ve added anything else. Some charters are structured to minimise this through itinerary routing, but for a Monaco GP charter berthed in the principality, assume you’re paying it in full.

Crew gratuity is expected, not optional. Industry standard is 15 to 20 percent of the base charter rate, paid in cash at the end of the trip. On a €24,000 cabin share, that is €3,600 to €4,800 per couple, or €1,800 to €2,400 per person. Not tipping is remembered. Monaco is a small world.

The helicopter is the only sensible transfer. During race weekend, the road from Nice Airport to Monaco — normally 20 minutes — routinely takes 90 minutes or more due to road closures and traffic. The helicopter takes 7 minutes and costs €450 to €700 per seat each way at race weekend rates. Over a four-day trip with two transfers, budget €900 to €1,400 per person. It is not a luxury. It is a necessity.

You will see the cars for approximately eight seconds per lap. From most yacht positions in Port Hercule, the circuit is visible for a brief window, typically at the harbour chicane section. The race runs for roughly two hours and 78 laps. We timed the visible window at between six and ten seconds per lap, depending on deck position. That is approximately eleven minutes of racing across the entire weekend.

We mention this not to be reductive, but because it is essential context for what follows.

So What Are You Actually Paying For?

This is the question luxury media never asks, because asking it implies the answer might be uncomfortable.

If you are spending €30,000 to €50,000 per person to watch eleven minutes of Formula 1, the race is not the product. The race is the occasion. What you are actually buying is something else entirely:

Access. Monaco during the Grand Prix is one of the most concentrated gatherings of wealth, power, and influence on the global calendar. The people on the yachts around you are not random tourists. They are the people who own the companies, run the funds, and make the introductions that move careers and capital. For a certain kind of person, one conversation on a superyacht deck in Monaco is worth more than the entire cost of the trip.

The aesthetic of the thing. There is something genuinely extraordinary about sitting on a yacht deck in the Mediterranean sun, watching a Formula 1 car flash past at 280 kilometres per hour a hundred metres away, with a glass of ros

é in your hand. The sensory experience — the sound, the smell, the proximity — is unlike anything a grandstand delivers. The eleven seconds of visible racing is not the point. The eleven seconds is the punctuation in a four-day experience that is otherwise about being exactly where the world is happening.

Status, honestly. We are a publication that believes in calling things what they are. Part of what you are buying is the ability to say you were there, and to have it be verifiable and credible. In the circles where Monaco weekends are currency, this has a value that is difficult to quantify but very real.

None of these things are worth €50,000 to everyone. To some people, they are worth considerably more.

The Alternatives Worth Knowing

Before the verdict, it is worth noting what else this money buys you in the world of Formula 1 hospitality — because context matters.

The Paddock Club — Formula 1’s official premium hospitality — costs approximately €8,000 to €12,000 for a three-day package at Monaco. You get trackside access, a proper view of the pit lane, food and drink included, and the genuine possibility of seeing drivers up close. It is a fraction of the yacht cost and, for pure racing experience, significantly better.

A grandstand seat costs €1,780 for a three-day premium package. You see more of the race than almost any yacht position. You feel it more. The atmosphere is arguably superior.

The yacht experience is not better than these options on racing metrics. It wins on everything else.

<a class="image-link image2 is-viewable-img" target="_blank" going to watch Formula 1, go to the Paddock Club. If you want to feel the race, sit in a grandstand.

If you are going to Monaco — if the occasion is the point, if the network is the reason, if you want to spend four days in the most concentrated display of European wealth and excess on the calendar — then the yacht is the only answer. The cost is real. The experience is real. The return depends entirely on what you bring to it and who you meet when you get there.

€30,000 to €50,000 for the right weekend, with the right people, at the right point in your life can be the most efficient money you ever spent.

For everyone else, it is an extraordinarily expensive way to watch eleven seconds of racing.

GILT has a verdict. In this case, it is: it depends, but only on one thing. Know what you’re buying before you buy it.

Next issue: Art Basel (Switzerland) — The Price of Good Taste

— The GILT Editors

Thanks for reading! That’s what one person spends to watch a Formula 1 race from a superyacht in Monaco. Not the whole boat. One person. For one weekend.

We wanted to know if it was worth it. Nobody would tell us straight. So we did the maths ourselves.

Issue 001 is coming. From most yacht positions in Port Hercule, you can see the cars for approximately eight seconds per lap. The race lasts around two hours. Do the maths.

And yet — is the Monaco Grand Prix experience really just about the race? Nobody spending $80,000 on a superyacht weekend thinks they’re buying a viewing angle. They’re buying something else entirely. The question GILT is interested in is whether that something else is actually worth it.

Luxury media has a problem that nobody in luxury media will admit. It has never learned to count.

Pick up any travel magazine, open any hospitality review, read any points blog. You will find superlatives in abundance. Exceptional. World-class. Unparalleled. Transformative. You will find photographs of things that look beautiful because they were lit by a professional photographer on a complimentary press trip. You will find recommendations from writers who didn’t pay for what they’re recommending.

What you will not find is a number. An honest, total, all-in number that tells you what something actually costs and whether it is actually worth it.

We think that’s a problem. So we fixed it.

Every piece of GILT editorial starts with the same question a sensible person asks before spending serious money on anything: what am I actually getting, and what am I actually paying?

Not the rack rate. The total cost. From flights, transfers, accommodation, food, drink, hidden fees, crew gratuities, the bottle of rosé someone opened before you could say no. The real number that lands in your account statement two weeks later and either justifies itself or doesn’t.

Then we tell you which it is.

We will tell you when something famous is overrated. When a legendary property is coasting on a reputation it stopped earning a decade ago. When the cheaper option is genuinely better. When the expensive one is worth every dollar and then some. We will always land somewhere. No hedging. No “it depends on your budget.” GILT has a verdict, and we’ll defend it.

We are writing for two people.

The first is spending the money right now. They’ve sat in enough first class cabins to know which airline actually delivers and which one is selling nostalgia. They’ve stayed in enough five-star hotels to understand that a high room rate and a great stay are not the same thing. They don’t need to be told something is luxurious. They need someone who has looked at it properly and will give them a straight answer.

The second is working toward it. They choose deliberately, save carefully, and when they spend on something exceptional they need to know it will actually be exceptional. They cannot afford to get it wrong. They need honest information more than anyone.

GILT is written for both. Because the question is always the same.

Is this worth the life you traded for it?

This is Issue 001. We are starting in Monaco — specifically, on the water during the most coveted display of wealth on the billionaire calendar — because it is one of the most expensive sporting weekends on earth and almost nobody tells you what it actually costs, what you actually get, or whether any of it holds up to honest scrutiny.

We have done the maths. We have a verdict.

Luxury, examined.

Thanks for reading!
